Advice Matters
Vanguard recently published an analytical study looking at portfolio, financial, and emotional outcomes related to receiving financial advice. Using factors such as financial objectives, risk tolerance, investment horizon, and demographic and wealth characteristics Vanguard examined these elements within the context of the financial plan presented to the client.
The paper clearly demonstrates that an advisor provides important value by positioning a client into a better ratio of investments that matches their risk and goal profile. Another important conclusion was related to the emotional element of advice. Half of the attributed value of consultation was credited to the emotional aspect of the client in the survey, emphasizing how important the client / advisor relationship is to the overall success and well-being of the parties involved. This metric is something that is not studied enough in a traditional sense but is focused on and emphasized at DLK.
